Hands off our topless beaches!
For those of you who haven’t heard, religeous morals crusader and state politician Fred Nile today called for a ban on women going topless at beaches right across NSW.
Its raised a mixed reaction of support and opposition amongst members of the Coalition and silence from the State Labor Government.
I’m...
Why don’t we have this sort of right here in Australia?
Check out this article for an outline of how Massachussets Republican State Senator (and fed Senate candidate) Scott Brown dealt with one high school teacher’s rant about gay rights.
He requested a visit to the school, citing a requirement which allows for the teaching of controversial subjects provided a balanced view is offered.
Scott Brown was able to take the teacher on in her own territory over the issue of gay marriage, and slam her and the handful of students who posted demeaning comments about him and his two daughters on facebook.
Something tells me that if politicians had this right in Australia that left-wing teachers would be less likely to impose their worldview on students for fear that it would backfire when they have to lock horns with a politician who is more articulate than they are -- if only because the politician makes a living from it.
This can only be a good thing for the taxpayer funded school system. Let’s put the focus back on education, not indoctrination.
It’s also worth noting that Scott Brown actually supports civil unions, a demonstration that some gay activists are not interested in meeting society half way on such polarising issues.
Nick has taken his message to America to remind them of the values for which their country stands. He has spoken at a wide range of events which include local republican clubs and tea bag protests. If you haven’t seen it you are missing out on a treat, which is why I am including a link to the Nick Adams in America website on Ross Grove UNCENSORED for all eternity, or until I change my mind -- whichever comes first.
I like Nick Adams, but but there’s the conservative from Ashfield Nick Adams you know and there’s the Nick Adams from liberal New York you don’t know. This gem came out as number one whilst surfing for the phrase “Nick Adams America” on YouTube for more of those great videos and I got to meet the Nick Adams I never knew.
This is probably how America will turn out should our Nick Adams not have his way.
Do you remember the faux violence of the WWE? If you do you’ll remember Vince McMahon, the WWE Chairman who would spice up each match with some pseudopolitical drama to raise the stakes.
Well Vince McMahon’s wife Linda is the real-life CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment and she’s contesting the Republican nomination to take on incumbent Senator Chris Dodd (D-Connecticut).
The Senator has been somewhat unpopular of late due to his role in the collapse of the US property industry (not to mention economies right across western civilisation) so she has half a chance of beating him -- in fact, the most recent polling shows her in front with a two point lead!
She’s a professional business candidate with none of the baggage of a 29-year incumbency -- this will be a race to watch. She’s the first link to make the sidebar at “Ross Grove UNCENSORED” -- find out more at http://www.linda2010.com/
Here’s a neat parody of one of her recent campaign videos-
After last night’s Citizenship Ceremony one of Holroyd’s (and Australia’s) newest citizens told me about the existence of these rather amusing YouTube clips.
They really show what a cultural meting pot this world has become -- one can only wonder what is being done to Britney Spears videos on the other side of the world -- after all, if we can’t laugh together we can’t live together.

I’m siding with the “NO” camp. We have enough rules governing our lives without being told what we can and can’t wear to the beach thank you very much.
The crux of Nile’s case is that society needs to set a bunch of uniform standards so everyone can get along peacefully.
I’m not on his Christmas card list, but I suspect such a politically correct agenda would also warrant such phrases as “Season’s Greetings” and “Happy Holidays” to accomodate for all of those people who are …well… not on his Christmas Card list.
We already have those governing standards but they’re just not his.
Fred Nile may be on the money when it comes to supporting a “silent majority or significant miniority” but that argument doesn’t wash with me. The people who should be making the rules governing conduct at any given beach should be the communities that use them and not the state government.
The local community should be able to decide which beaches cater to the topless and which beaches don’t. Local commerce will in most cases reflect this. A hippy-love community like Byron Bay may support a candle shop next to a topless beach whereas a more family friendly area will support an ice-cream store or fish and chip shop.
Either way, it is the people who use the local beaches who should make the rules- not Fred Nile and our state politicians.
